Worldwide Daily Study of Maimonides
A Conclusion and a New Beginning
Sunday Evening – Tu b'Shevat
Feb 1 at 8:00pm
Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon - Maimonides – the Rambam (1135-1204)
Composed by Maimonides over 800 years ago, this magnum opus is an unequaled compendium of all the laws of the Torah.
Hundreds of thousands around the world will conclude learning the annual study cycle on Sunday evening, February 1, 2026 – the eve of Tu b'Shevat. They will begin immediately the new cycle on Monday evening, February 2.
Covering three chapters a day, it took these dedicated learners the better part of the past year to study the 1,000-chapter monograph. For many, it will be the 45th time to complete the series since the Rebbe—Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory—first instituted the study cycle in 1984.
Unity of the Jewish People
Maimonides ’ 14-volume work, Mishneh Torah , is the only collection of Jewish law that spans the entirety of Jewish life. It covers not only contemporary practice but also laws cogent to the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, Kohanim, laws of prophecy, kings, laws of the Messiah and so much more that are not included in prior or subsequent codes.
The Rebbe noted that the unity achieved by the entire Jewish people studying the same subject in Torah at the same time in the singular work that encompasses every aspect of Torah Law is unequaled in any other study!
The Rebbe’s emphasis on daily study echoed Maimonides’ own suggestion of how his work should be learned, but until the Rebbe’s innovation, most people only studied the Mishneh Torah piecemeal.
For those whom study of three chapters every day is not yet practical, the Rebbe suggested a parallel track at a more modest pace of one chapter daily. Sunday evening's ceremony will conclude the 15th cycle studying one chapter a day as well.
The Rebbe suggested yet a third track for those whom the daily chapter is not yet practical by study of Maimonides’ significantly shorter Sefer Hamitzvot -- Book of Commandments. Participants will study learn each of the 613 mitzvahs as they are discussed that particular day in the three-chapter-per-day regimen.
