Olive Press

The Olive Press program incorporates both modern and ancient instruments that recreate the art of pressing and refining olive oil. After watching a video specially produced for this workshop, students pit fresh olives and squeeze them in a hand press. The juice is strained and spun in a centrifuge that separates out the pure oil. Participants fashion wicks out of cotton. When the oil is purified, they fill and light the Menorah.
